Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret

Le Corbusier's work at risk in Chandigarh was created from scratch sixty years ago by the Franco-Swiss architect Le Corbusier. Its striking, concrete buildings were supposed to give a distinct identity to a newly Independent India. But now this masterpiece of modern, minimalist design is under threat. Le Corbusier designed more than just the buildings. The architect commissioned his cousin Pierre Jeanneret to create thousands of pieces of purpose-built furniture. In the decades after his death, many of these pieces were stolen or sold to western antique dealers, who in turn auctioned them around the world.

Eric Touchaleaume, often known as "The Indiana Jones of furniture collecting" started to buy these abandoned furniture from junkyards and restored the furniture into mint condition. Other than auction houses, some of Pierre Jeanneret's restored pieces can be found at Galarie 54.

Friday, May 4, 2012 6:13:19 AM Asia/Singapore

We are very privileged to be part of the inaugural Thai film festival, Film On The Rocks Yao Noi which was curated by Tilda Swinton, cultural activist and producer and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Thai film maker. The festival was hosted by Nat Sarasas and Chomwan Weeraworawit. The objective was to promote film and visual arts and at the sametime, supporting upcoming local artists and film makers. It was a very private and unique film festival which gathered art, film, fashion and music people at the Six Senses Yao Noi resort. Film screenings on different settings each night, one of them was an archipelago cinema designed by Ole Shereen, a screen projected on the limestone outcrops that rise out of the waters of the Andaman Sea as well as screening at a local village carnival on the rice paddy field.
